About Robert Harris
My interest in photography began in middle school and continued throughout my career as a historian for various units in the United States Air Force. That is where I began concentrating on scenic and wildlife photograph. With the numerous deployments and permanent duty stations I refined my art and improved my equipment.
After retiring from the service, I began working with a school photographer in Idaho and learned individual and family portrait, school sports, and wedding photography. I started
my own business and did well enough to support my family. However, as my eyesight began to diminish, I was unable to properly focus film cameras. I simply could no longer provide the quality that I expected from myself, and I sold the business and its equipment and gave up photography for more than a decade.
The advent of digital photograph and the rapid improvements in digital SLR cameras allowed me to begin anew. Not wanting to commit to a full-time portrait and wedding photography business I began again concentrating on scenic and wildlife shots. These were more for my personal enjoyment as I had established a well-paying career in curriculum development for DirecTV, Cricket, AT&T and other business.
As I approached retirement age, I wanted to spend more time on recreational activities. I began working in the pro shop of a local golf course and worked my way up to Assistant Manager. When my wife’s parents began needing help we moved to Sierra Vista, and I took a “temporary” job as General Manager at Turquoise Valley Golf and RV Park in Naco. When the business was sold, I went to full retirement and again picked up my cameras. While I still do occasional commercial photography jobs my main focus is scenic art. My work is currently on display at galleries across Southern Arizona.
