The green-winged teal (Anas crecca) is a species of small dabbling duck that belongs to the family Anatidae. Here are some key characteristics and information about the green-winged teal: Green-winged teals are relatively small ducks, with a length ranging from 12 to 16 inches (30 to 41 cm). Adult males weigh around 0.9 to 1.2 pounds (400 to 550 grams), while females are slightly smaller. The males (drakes) have distinctive green patches on their wings, which are visible in flight. Their heads are chestnut with a white crescent in front of the eyes. The rest of the body is mostly mottled brown. Female green-winged teals are mottled brown overall, with a more subdued coloration compared to males. They have a pale blue patch on their wing. Green-winged teals are dabbling ducks, meaning they feed on the water's surface or tip forward to graze on submerged vegetation. They are known for their agile and swift flight, making them capable of quickly maneuvering through dense vegetation.
