Description
The butterfly is a Danaus gilippus (commonly known as Queen). It has just landed on a Milkweed plant to gather nectar. Taken in Central Florida near BOK Tower. The Queen butterfly is known for its distinctive caterpillar, which is striped in yellow, black, and white, and has two long black filaments at the head and tail. The caterpillars feed on milkweed plants and are toxic to predators due to the presence of cardiac glycosides in their bodies, which they acquire from the milkweed.
